Where is Hoover?

Hoover is located along the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in north central Alabama. Since the mid-1930’s, this widely dotted residential area outside Birmingham was commonly referred to as the “Hoover Community,” so named for William H. Hoover who was the owner of a local insurance company.  However; it wasn’t until 1967 that the city was officially incorporated. 

Just 12 miles from the Birmingham International Airport, the city encompasses an area of approximately 50 square miles in both Jefferson and Shelby counties.  With a population of over 82,000, Hoover is the sixth largest city in Alabama and has a nationally-recognized, award-winning school system.  The median household income of this thriving business community is estimated to be about $75,000.

Hoover proudly offers something for everyone. The Hoover Recreation Center provides programs, classes and activities for all ages.  Amenities include a fitness center and racquetball court, an indoor pool and track, arts and crafts rooms, meeting rooms and childcare, to name a few.   In addition to state-of-the-art healthcare, you will also find a fantastic senior citizens’ activity center.  Churches range in size from very small to 2000+ in attendance.  The Aldridge Botanical Gardens is a beautiful 30 acre woodland park, surrounded by a seven acre lake.  Moss Rock Preserve is a 350 acre nature preserve abundant with trees and plants, streams, waterfalls, wildlife and 12 miles of hiking trails.  These are just a few of the many activities that one can enjoy in and around the city of Hoover.

You will also find over 200 restaurants, world-class shopping including the largest shopping mall in the southeast, the Riverchase Galleria, a number of award winning golf courses, both private and public, as well as the Barons minor league baseball team,  a Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
